My reaction about the march of death is It is very
tremendous to our ancestors the time of Death March(Japanese Occupation) because they really suffer deep pain and
brutal situation. The Japanese soldier’s intent to kill, brutalize, weaken and
or demoralize the prisoners/captives. They really doesn’t care the feeling or
situation of the Filipino prisoners or captives. You can see and feel the
dreadful situation of our ancestors.
Most of them experience starvation, dehydration, humiliation
and torture. They are physically abuse as well demoralize. Even they have
illness or physical injuries still continue doing their assigned task. Their
small cell is inside the train. Hundreds and thousands of them is there as a
captives and prisoner.
The prisoners transported from San Fernando to Capas by
trail. Hundreds or more of the prisoners were stuffed into each of the train
boxcar, which were unventilated and sweltering in the tropical heat. The train had no sanitation facilities, and
disease continued to take a heavy toil of the prisoners. And after reach Capas
they were force to walk the final 9 miles to Camp Donell, you can see that the
survivors continue to walk and thousands of them die. Most of them were buried
in mass graves the Japanese dug out with bulldozers on the outside of the
barbed wire surrounding the compound. You see how dreadful and tremendous the
situation of Filipino people during that time. You can really feel and see the
abusive Japanese soldiers treat our ancestors that time. We are really lucky
nowadays compared to that time of Death March.
